ULANZI MT-44 Review: Setup for Ghost-Hunt Recording

The ULANZI MT-44 can support a phone or lightweight camera for a fixed view during a ghost hunt. Its value is practical: you can keep the framing consistent while you document what happens in a room. Check your device’s fit, the complete mounted weight and the selected Amazon variant before buying. This is a research-based review of published specifications, not a hands-on test.

Which MT-44 does this guide cover?

Our supplied Amazon link opens ASIN B09T92NK4J with BLACK selected. Auto Open is a separate option on that shared listing. This guide covers the standard black MT-44; do not assume it has automatic leg opening or the accessories shown for another variant. Check the selected option again at checkout.

The manufacturer and Amazon use different height and extension-section descriptions, so we have not combined those figures into a single specification. If maximum height is essential to your setup, confirm the exact version with the seller.

ULANZI MT-44 features and buying checks

FeaturePractical useCheck before buying
Folding phone holderHold a phone for a stationary video view. The selected listing states a 60–80 mm opening; measure with the case on.
1/4-inch camera screwAttach a camera with a matching tripod socket.Check the socket, clearance and complete rig weight.
Adjustable ball headSet horizontal or vertical framing.Secure the head and check that the device does not drift.
Extendable supportAdjust the viewing angle for the room.Use only the height you need and check balance.
Cold-shoe mountAttach a compatible accessory. The mount supplies no power; include accessories in the load.

The selected listing gives a maximum load of 1.5 kg, approximately 3.3 lb. Treat that as a stated limit, not a promise that every rig below it will be stable. A large lens, offset microphone or light can change the balance. For a heavy camera or a tall, top-heavy setup, consider a more substantial support.

Set up a stationary recording in six steps

  1. Get permission and inspect the location. Choose an authorized recording spot with firm, level footing. Keep the tripod away from stairs, exits and walking routes.
  2. Start low. Open the legs fully and use the shortest extension that gives a useful view. Check the tripod’s supplied instructions and locks.
  3. Secure the device. Check that the clamp grips your phone correctly without pressing buttons. For a camera, confirm the matching socket and tighten the mount without forcing it.
  4. Frame a useful reference view. Include recognizable stationary objects so later camera movement is easier to identify. Avoid aiming directly into a bright light.
  5. Make a test clip. Review focus, exposure, audio, storage and battery level. Check that the mount has not slipped. A tripod cannot correct a camera that is out of focus or not recording.
  6. Keep a simple log. Note start time, lighting changes, people entering the frame and any equipment adjustments. Preserve the original file before making edited clips.

Read our beginner ghost-hunting gear guide to plan the rest of a practical kit. You do not need every accessory at once; start with a reliable recording method and clear notes.

What this tripod cannot do

The MT-44 adds no night vision, infrared illumination, thermal imaging or audio detection. Those functions depend on the camera or other equipment. Attaching an infrared light does not make an ordinary camera capable of seeing infrared.

A fixed camera records ordinary light and sound within its capabilities. Dust, reflections, autofocus changes, compression and people’s movements can still create confusing footage. Keeping the view steady can make comparisons easier, but recordings do not establish paranormal activity. Investigate ordinary explanations before drawing conclusions.

A lightweight tripod also needs supervision. Wind, vibration, uneven floors or someone brushing a leg can move the view or tip the equipment. Do not leave valuable equipment balanced in an unsafe position.

Is the MT-44 a sensible beginner purchase?

It is worth considering if you need one portable support for a phone and a lightweight camera, and your device fits the selected version. It is less suitable if you need a heavy camera rig, assured outdoor stability or a remote included in the box. Compare the mounting requirements first, then decide whether the convenience fits your recording plan.

See the ULANZI MT-44 product listing for the buying checklist, or check price on Amazon. Confirm BLACK versus Auto Open and the included items before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my phone with a case?

Measure your phone’s width with its case installed. The selected listing states a 60–80 mm clamp opening. A thick case, unusual shape or side-button position may affect fit even if the width appears suitable.

Does this MT-44 include a Bluetooth remote?

The selected standard-black listing says no remote is included. Do not rely on reviews or photos pooled across different variants; check the selected option’s included-items information.

Can I mount a DSLR or an action camera?

A DSLR needs a matching socket, but the screw alone does not establish suitability. Check total weight and balance against the selected listing’s 1.5 kg limit. An action camera may require a separate adapter.

Will the tripod help me capture ghosts?

It can help maintain a fixed view. It does not detect spirits, validate an interpretation or turn an unusual recording into proof. Its purpose is to support ordinary recording equipment.
